Night one

Well, it took much longer than expected to get the packing done, but with help and encouragement from Judy The Beauty, after a midday detour to Amy F’s suite at Petco Park and a few surprise g’byes, we headed up the 15 last night. The car looks like “The Grapes of Wrath,” but our trip will be more like “Travels With Charlie.” The pets are all game and handled everything without complaint. We stopped at a McDonald’s in Escondidi to rendezvous with MJ and test their new coffee. But the brewer was broken and Fox News was blaring balderdash (“The owner won’t let us change the channel …”), so we had just a quick snack, said our teary so-longs, and headed bak up the 15.

So tired so quickly that I exited in Lake Elsinore, found a nice Quality Inn, and settled into air-conditioned comfort. It’s quite nice. The pets sniffed everything, pronounced their ok’s, and were sound asleep by the time I finished showering. (Katie hunkered down uner the sheets, and escaped Houdini-like from her leash, without moving once thru the night.)

Joey woke me up at 730 needing a walk, and now we’re relaxing in the room with coffee, oatmeal, applesauce, and Purina to fortify us forthe hot drive ahead. It’s challenging to type with my thumbs, but I’m glad to begin this blogging habit early. Now on to some Egoscue, and we shall hit the road to Vegas. M, J, K, & T

 1. Marsh- I am watching your travels with interest. Wasn’t the saying "Westward Ho" not "Eastward Ho?" Oh well you are breaking all the rules as The Grapes of Wrath was about the "Okies" heading to California not the other way around. We are looking forward to your visit and decided to put you another area of the house where Marsha and her children will be able to stay away from a certain chocolate lab who will love the visiting dogs but may give unwanted attention to the other four legged visitor- she likes to chase cats, I think, although she has never caught one. Let us all know how you are progressing.Harry

Kids travelled great today. Thanks for making special accommodations for the caravan.

Please know that Katie thinks she is a dog and will treat Sadie with all due respect. She has a nice cage and a handy litter box,

On to Zion tomorrow.

M.
Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile

 3. Yeaaaa! I love the blogging. Makes me feel like I’m on the road with ya’ll. I can just picture it although I kind of had the Italian country side as the more preferred tag along! Safe travels. Kiss them critters for me. xo Amela

 4. I am following the trip with great interest and please know that you are welcome here no matter when you arrive. There are no conflicts and it will be "all about you." I know there are mixed emotions about this moment in your life but it is what it is. I also know that this trip is a wonderful experience and you get to share it with your little family which is also positive and negative. It is difficult to travel with all those four legged friends and I know you would like to be able to get out and walk up to some monument or another but can’t because some over zealous pet Nazi will be reporting you for having left animals in a hot car. It is all OK the minute you look to your right and see that happy face who only wants to be near his Mom and the other one panting over your shoulder Drive carefully and we can’t wait to see you. Sadie sends her best and Hazel wishes you could be here on the 20th for her 91st birthday – we will have to celebrate early.Harry
